About Christopher Carey

Marching in Memorial Day Parade in New CityChristopher Carey is a Rockland County Legislator residing in Bardonia, NY with his wife Maureen and two daughters, Tara and Anna. Christopher is a product of the Clarkstown School system and has lifelong ties to the Town of Clarkstown, having moved here with his parents when he was two years old.  He has been very active in the community, particularly in St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, where he and his family are parishioners.

Christopher was born in the Bronx as the youngest of five children to William and Marie Carey. Like many other families at the time, the Careys eventually looked to the suburbs to better accommodate their growing family. They settled in Bardonia in 1964. Christopher attended Bardonia Elementaty School and Clarkstown Junior High School before graduating from Clarkstown South High School in 1980. Looking to stay close to home in attending college, Christopher chose to attend Manhattan College where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. It was during his time at Manhattan College that Christopher first took an interest in local politics. When his father successfully ran for Town Council, Christopher took on an active role in his father’s campaign. It was also at Manhattan that Christopher met his future wife in then fellow student Maureen Taylor.

The Carey FamilyChristopher and Maureen were married in 1987 and moved to Edison, NJ for several years. When they were afforded the opportunity to purchase Christopher’s childhood home, they happily relocated to Bardonia to raise a family.  Daughter Tara was born in 1993, followed by daughter Anna in 1995.

During the next decade, Christopher juggled the responsibilities of husband and father while earning a Master of Science Degree in Telecom & Computing Management from Polytechnic University. He then went on to obtain an MBA in Finance from Long Island University. As his children grew older, Christopher once again decided to engage in local politics and served as the Campaign Chairman on George Hoehmann’s successful run for Town Council in 2009. He also took active roles in campaigns of several other  Town Council candidates. Christopher eventually decided to get directly involved and served on several town boards and committees before running for and being elected to the Rockland County Legislature in 2011.

At the PodiumChristopher is currently employed as a Manager-Technologies/New Product Development at Verizon Communications. Christopher remains first and foremost a family man, and is extremely proud of his two daughters. Tara is currently following in her parents’ footsteps as a senior at Manhattan College, while Anna is currently a sophomore at Fordham University. Christopher and Maureen are happy to have them both close to home.
